Response to comments on post about lawsuit involving Myriad Genetics

Yesterday I posted a short note with reference to a story involving an ACLU lawsuit against Myriad Genetics which has re-opened the discussion about patenting genes, that is human DNA.  The company of course went through this discussion to obtain the patent as others have and are no doubt prepared for this action to protect its interests.

It should be pointed out that the plantiffs include women with breast and ovarian cancer, physicians, cancer and genetics researchers as well as the Association for Molecular Pathology, American College of Medical Genetics, American Society of Clinical Pathologists, Breast Cancer Action & the College of American Pathologists among others.

Greetings…I am writing an article about this for an upcoming issue of Laboratory Industry Report and would love to get any comments/thoughts/rants from the pathology community. Feel free to e-mail me at jmcdowell@ioma.com.

And thanks to Keith–I find pathtalk very valuable.
