About Christopher Cogbill

Hi! I'm a PGY-2 AP/CP resident at the Medical College of WI in Milwaukee. I also attended medical school here from 2002-2006, after which I attempted the Internal Medicine pathway and soon learned of how brilliant a career in Pathology could be. Right now I'm pursuing interests in both gastrointestinal surgical pathology and hematopathology. Thus, here I am, excited about H&Es, CDs, and dRVVTs!!!

Career Choices

Our Pathology program has set up the curriculum so that we do three-month block rotations during our second year of training.  I just finished my three-month intense hematopathology rotation and really enjoyed it.  I’m psyched about doing more of it and I hope to do a fellowship.
In the midst of talking about career choices with [...]

2009 Midwestern Conference

This weekend brings the 2nd annual Midwestern Conference Update in Surgical Pathology to Milwaukee.  It’s a three-day, Friday-Sunday affair and I am proud to say that it’s been a great conference thus far.  It’s taking place in the InterContinental Hotel in downtown Milwaukee, which serves as a quite high-end venue.  Although I am not staying [...]

Hemepath

I am officially well into my PGY-2 year and my current rotation is Hemepath for 3 months.  It’s been a bit of a shift from the mentality of Surgical Pathology, but the workflow is similar to that other, “foreign” world.  I enjoy the types of cases we get to work up and actually have found [...]

Follow up to: 21-year-old with liver failure and hemolytic anemia

A couple of weeks ago I posted a case of a 21-year-old young woman who presented with acute liver failure and hemolytic anemia.  As suggested by one of the emails we received, this young lady had Wilson’s disease and the combination of liver failure and hemolytic anemia is a giveaway presentation of this rare disease.

Blood Donations in the Elderly

This weekend I’m joining my wife for an academic retreat in rural Wisconsin.  The topic is geriatric medicine and training of rising chief residents in all specialties how to incorporate geriatric medicine into their curricula.  While I was stumped at first how incorporating care of older adults could fit in to my Pathology practice, I [...]
