Purple fence on Newtown Pike honors those lost to drug addiction - WKYT

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - If you happen to drive on Newtown Pike in Lexington you might notice something unusual. It’s a purple fence to raise awareness for drug addiction.

August is Overdose Awareness Month and organizers are using purple to bring awareness. On the purple fence you’ll see 150 faces of people who have died from their drug addiction.

On Wednesday, supporters hung locks on the fences to represent those fighting a drug problem. Once a loved one has beat their addiction, someone will unlock the lock and keep the key.

“We’re hoping that everybody leaves their locks. And we just keep adding and go from Lexington into another town until we’re all across Kentucky and we put a stop to this,” said Pam Stamper.

Stamper lost her son to drug addiction in 2014.
